IATA sees silver lining on the air freight horizon

Annual report 2009 of IATA draws bad picture of air freight industry

The year 2009 brought the largest ever post-war decline in demands for airlines. According to the statements of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) demand for freight transportation showed a full-year decline of 10.1 per cent. The average load factor of the aircraft is reported with 49.1 per cent.

In December 2009 IATA registered a clear reversal of the trend. In that month 24.4 per cent more air freight was transported than in the same period of the previous year. And even better: Demand for air freight services reached a 44-month high in December 2009. This pointed towards increased freight volumes in the coming weeks, the IATA headquarters in Geneva says confidently.
