Jubilee of DHL Express’ ‘Formula 1 Service’ for passports

DHL Express announces delivery on time of the 5,000th one-day-express-passport in Austria

DHL Express Austria’s special service for one-day-express passports is celebrating a small jubilee. After somewhat more than two years of cooperation with Austria’s passport authorities and Austria’s state printing office (OeSD) the 5,000th one-day-express passport was recently successfully delivered within one day.

The one-day-express passport is a regular passport, which DHL Express can deliver to any address in Austria until the next working day (Monday until Friday, except for holidays). Independent of one’s place of residence, one can apply for this passport at the respective Bezirkshauptmannschaft or Magistrat (administrative authorities).

Austria’s state printing office produces the travel document overnight and passes it to DHL Express the next working day to be delivered to the recipient. DHL Express delivers the passport on the very same day to any address in Austria.

Based on the specially designed transport network the express service is able to reach even Austria’s most remote areas from Vienna within one day from taking over the passport from the state printing office. The one-day-express passport is valid throughout all nations without any restrictions. The fee for the one-day-express passport is EUR 220 for adults and EUR 165 for children before the age of 12.

It is particularly in the holiday season, when an expired passport can cause problems just before leaving the country. “This is when there is peak season for DHL Express, and the same-day division coordinates and delivery up to 40 one-day-express passports“, explains Patrick Krückeberg, Same Day Manager DHL Express Austria.

Since the introduction of this service in mid-March 2010 more than 5,000 Austrians have made use of DHL Express’ ‘Formula 1-Model’ for the Austrian passport. Notwithstanding if holiday or business trip – quite some few cancellations or expensive were avoided through that service.

“In cases of emergency one can receive a regular passport that is valid across all nations within the shortest possible time, which is unique in Europe“, Thomas Zach, Vice General Manager OeSD, names the reasons for this success.
