Emirates SkyCargo steers its course to Basra in southern Iraq

South Iraqi port city of Basra becomes 110th destination in Emirates SkyCargo’s worldwide network in February

Basra is about to be introduced into the worldwide route network of Emirates SkyCargo. From 2 February the international airline of the United Arab Emirates will approach the South Iraqi port city from Dubai four times a week using an Airbus A330-200. This helps to boost trade with Iraq, as the enterprise says in a press release.

Emirates SkyCargo will fly around 130 tons of air freight per week to Basra. The goods will range from equipment for the oil industry and petrochemical branch to perishable food consignments, medical products, car parts, textiles, electronic items and mobile phones.

In addition to the cargo hold of 152 long-distance aircrafts, Emirates SkyCargo provides also the capacities of seven freight-only machines (five Boeing 747 and two Boeing 777). In the 2009/10 business year the company has transported 1.6 million tons of airfreight which generated a turnover of around USD 1.7 billion.
