Gefco assumes the lion’s share of GM’s logistics business in Europe

Gefco is awarded logistics orders of Opel/Vauxhall, Chevorlet and Cadillac Europe thanks to strategic alliance of General Motors and PSA Peugeot Citroen from 2013

Having won a new major order, the Gefco Group enhances its position in the market segments of automotive and industrial logistics. As a first result of their global alliance General Motors (GM) and PSA Peugeot Citroen made a long-term, exclusive agreement, thus transferring the major part of GM’s logistics business in Europe to Gefco. Headquartered in Paris, Gefco is a 100%-subsidiary of PSA Peugeot Citroen.

The new logistics agreement between GM and Gefco is to become effective as of 2013. On 29 February this year GM and PSA Peugeot Citroen announced a broadly based global strategic alliance, which shall use strengths and capabilities of both enterprises and thus contribute to profitability of both partners and their respective competitive position.

The agreement covers the major part of the logistics activities of Opel/Vauxhall, Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe (including Russia). It covers also material and component supply of automotive plants, transportation of vehicles from the plants to retailers, and transportation of spare parts to distribution centres. The agreement is one of the most comprehensive of its kind in automotive logistics in Europe. It enables GM to reduce costs and focus internal ressources on their automotive core business.
