Kühne + Nagel opens new logistics centre in the Port of Duisburg

Duisburg is the Kühne + Nagel’s largest site worldwide; new logistics centre to serve a globally operating large customer from the consumer goods industry
 
With the inauguration of a new logistics centre the worldwide operating Kühne + Nagel Group has expanded its logistics area in the Port of Duisburg to almost 185,000 m². In future the enterprise will process the picking, storage and distribution of cleaning and body care products to markets in Germany, the Netherlands and Austria from there for a globally operating large customer from the consumer goods industry. The warehouses with a floor space of 22,000 m² were built and handed over turnkey ready in seven months.
 
“Kühne + Nagel has been one of the largest investors in the port area for many years. This new commitment is already the fifth expansion of the logistics area at the Duisburg location,” said Erich Staake, Chief Executive Officer of Duisburger Hafen AG. “This underlines the strategic significance which the company attaches to the location and its network.” Kühne + Nagel has built up its logistics capacities to 125,000 m² of covered storage area. Furthermore, the logistics service provider has been operating a warehouse with an area of 60,000 m² at Kaßlerfeld, a port area on east of the Rhine, since the 90s. From there the company operates for a globally active computer and printer manufacturer with a central warehouse for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
 
“The Duisburg location is the heart of our German and Central European network and now has even become our largest handling site worldwide,” emphasised Hans-Georg Brinkmann, Chairman of the Board of Kühne + Nagel in Germany. “Our customers and the Kühne + Nagel network benefit from the infrastructure advantages in Duisburg.” The logistics service provider dispatches around 1.6 million pallets a year from there for its customers. Kühne + Nagel employs a total of 750 people in Duisburg, of whom 650 people work in contract logistics.
