Last „parking“ container vessel is to leave the port of Rostock

“Idle“ container ships from the seaport of Rostock to be put to sea again

The last one of the four container vessels that were berthed in the port of Rostock for around one year is to leave on Monday 28 June and will be put to sea again, as the Hafen-Entwicklungsgesellschaft Rostock mbH announces in a press release. The container ship „Wehr Alster“, which was build in 2002 in the Stralsunder Volkswerft shipyard and is operated by the Hamburg shipping company Oskar Wehr offers space for 2,474 standard containers. It was berthed at the harbor basin A since 28 May 2009 due to lacking freight orders.

In the past weeks and months the other three container vessels („Northern Trust“, „Northern Valour“, „Wehr Havel“) that had been idle for one year have gone to great journeys again. “It is a good sign for the shipping and port industry that all four of Rostock‘s container ships have received freight orders and can be put to sea again“, comments Ulrich Bauermeister, Managing Director of the Hafen-Entwicklungsgesellschaft Rostock.
