LifeConEx: DHL buys stake in Lufthansa Cargo AG

LifeConEx strives to expand its global peak position with its new sole shareholder DHL Global Forwarding

DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight specialist of Deutsche Post DHL, and Lufthansa Cargo have reorganised their 50:50 stake in the LifeConEx joint venture. The logistics provider of cold chains for the life science industry is now a 100% subsidiary of DHL. They have been jointly operating the innovative special logistics service for six years and have now agreed, LifeConEx will be able to concentrate on expanding its market position through its new ownership structure, DHL and Lufthansa Cargo state in a joint press release.

LifeConEx, which was established in 2005, has evolved into a globally leading providers of continuous cold chains for the life science industry. DHL wants to take advantage of the company’s potentials through its global presence and further expand its cold chain services. This shall strengthen cooperation with Lufthansa Cargo; DHL wants also to keep LifeConEx’ neutrality to transport companies, forwarders and packing service providers. CEO David Bang will continue to manage the enterprise.

Dr. Andreas Otto, member of the Lufthansa Executive Board, emphasises: “Together with DHL Global Forwarding we made a leading provider of continuous cold chains of LifeConEx. The sale of our stake continues the strategy of focusing on airport-to-airport business. At the same time we want to further expand the segment for temperature-controlled shipments, amongst other things by developing our international pharma hubs. We will also continue to work in partnership with LifeConEx.“
