DHL invests USD 47 million into the expansion of the air hub at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport

In response to the increasing demand by international transport customers DHL invests USD 47 million into the expansion of its air hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport, USA. The globally acting logistics group establishes thereby a 18,000 m² sorting facility and about 280 new jobs in the coming twelve months. The new facility shall be ready to start operation by November this year. Further improvements of existing facilities and the acquisition of conveyors will be implemented by March 2013.

“The expansion is part of our worldwide investment program for our network infrastructure. We are thereby continuously expanding our transport capacities, improving our service offer on the main transit routes and consolidate our leading position in the international express market", Ken Allen, CEO DHL Express, comments on the expansion.

More than two million international shipments per month are handled via the air hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport, and forwarded to destinations in the USA, Canada, Mexico and Latin Aamerica. Since the air hub was opened in 2009, the number of employees at the Kentucky Airport rose from about 1,600 to currently about 2,000 persons. This number shall be further raised to about 2,300 staff in the coming twelve months.
