MÁV Cargo became Rail Cargo Hungaria

Hungarian cargo railway MÁV Cargo operates under new name since beginning of this month

After a long period of preparatory work the Hungarian cargo railway MÁV Cargo (Budapest) was renamed. Since the beginning of this month the enterprise acts under the name Rail Cargo Hungaria Zrt.. The re-branding is an important step of integration for the owner Rail Cargo Austria. MÁV Cargo was taken over by the RCA group at the end of 2008.

Rail Cargo Austria aims to reach a leading position as a provider of transport and logistics services with a strong focus on the rail in south-eastern Europe. The rail companies Rail Cargo Austria and Rail Cargo Hungaria play a main role for the implementation of the relevant steps and for the customer care. They are supported by the national affiliates of the Express-Interfracht forwarding company and specialists in the field of intermodal transport.

In 2009 MÁV Cargo registered a considerable decline in volumes. They moved 32 million tons of goods, which is around 25 per cent less than in the previous year. Turnover amounted to HUF 67.5 billion after HUF 86 billion in 2008. The enterprise employs currently a staff of 3,200 persons. By the end of 2010 around 100 locomotive drivers shall work for the enterprise. Until then the locomotive fleet is to be enlarged to 29 modern units.
