MISC Berhad about to withdraw from Grand Alliance

Grand Alliance reducing to three liner shipping companies

Formed by the shipping companies Hapag-Lloyd (Germany), MISC Berhad (Malaysia), NYK (Japan) and OOCL (Hong Kong) in 1998, the Grand Alliance is now to lose a founding member. At the beginning of this week the Management of MISC Berhad announced the withdrawal from the jointly operated services on the routes between Asia and Europe (including the Mediterranean). The withdrawal is scheduled for January 1, 2010.

The withdrawal of MISC Berhad will have no negative effects for our clients. The range of frequencies, transport times and service structures will be the same as before“, emphasised Hapag-Lloyd, NYK and OOCL in a joint press release. Grand Alliance operates 140 vessels with capacities between 2,000 and 9,000 TEU. Seven units operate under the flag of MISC Berhad.
