Morrisons extends Wincanton contract

Morrisons has awarded Wincanton the management of its transport and vehicle maintenance unit operations at Willow Green, Bridgwater,in a substantial contract extension between the supermarket and 3PL.

The contract will commence later this year and will involve the TUPE transfer of over 250 employees from the un-named, existing provider to Wincanton.

In addition, Morrisons and Wincanton said they would also “partner to improve logistics activities and service to Morrisons stores”. Craig Taylor, logistics director at Morrisons, said Wincanton had shown a “strong commitment” to Morrisons and had “embraced” its plan for logistics.

In 2019, Morrisons awarded Wincanton the management of three transport and five vehicle maintenance unit operations through its fleet management business, Pullman Fleet Services.  This initial contract involved the TUPE transfer of over 550 colleagues from Morrisons to Wincanton in order to service sites at Gadbrook, Wakefield, Stockton, Latimer and Sittingbourne.

Wincanton chief executive James Wroath said: “In these challenging circumstances affecting businesses across the UK, we are delighted to build upon our reputation for excellent implementation and quickly extend the scope of Wincanton’s much valued partnership with Morrisons.”

Yesterday Wincanton revealed that turnover rose 5.2% to £1.2 billion and pre-tax profit grew 7.3% to £52.8 million for the year-ending 31 March 2020.
