Navi Rail: Baltic-Austrian block train ready to start

Baltic Container Train to Vienna and Graz operated by the Estonian Navi Rail is „ready for takeoff“

 

Navi Rail headquartered in Tallinn, Estonia, want to establish the by their own account the first continuous container rail service from the Baltic States to Austria based on a regular schedule. After a preparation period of more than 2 years the train from Helsinki to Vienna and Graz, respectively shall be ready to start operation in November. The only condition therefore is sufficient bookings, as Vadim Shabarov, Director of rail operations at Navi Rail, points out in the interview with the Austrian Transport Journal Österreichische Verkehrszeitung. For the initial stage they plan to offer one departure per week, and expect to double the frequency in approximately six months.

The subsidiary of the Polish Rail World Group was founded in 2008 by American, Estonian and Finnish investors. This against the background of the intention to serve inter- and multimodal transport corridors between North and Central Europe. In addition to this train the company operates ferry services linking Tallinn and Helsinki. Their services are ranging from transportation of trucks, trailers and semi-trailers to vans, personal cars without drivers, containers and swap-bodies, dangerous goods, heavy goods, extra large goods, agricultural machinery and road-building machinery.
