New strategy with CTL Group in Germany

Polish private rail operator CTL Logistics reinforces east-west transport

It is the international traffic along the east-west axis that forms the basis of the new strategy of the Polish private rail operator for the German market. The main routes are going from the ARA ports to Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. One of the strategic targets of the company is to increase their market share in Germany from currently 1 to 5 per cent by the year 2012. The focus will be on similar transport segments as in Poland: fuels, chemicals, coal, coke, stone and intermodal transport.

At the moment the Polish market is served by CTL Express sp.z o.o., whereas the German clientele is served by CTL GmbH. As of 1 December 2009 the new, centralised, cross-border transport strategy will become effective across the CTL Group. This includes the operation of at least four trains per day between Cottbus and Czerwiensk. This means customers can benefit from shorter transit times, regular departures and higher frequencies.

Having a market share of 10 per cent in their domestic market, CTL Logistics is the biggest independent rail freight operator in Poland. In the first half-year 2009 CTL carried 1.17 million tons of cargo.
