New terminal consolidates DB Schenker’s position in Austria

DB Schenker builds modern logistics facility with its own track connection at the Klagenfurt Airport

Having expanded the location in Vienna-Albern and recently opened a new forwarding facility in Salzburg-Bergheim (total investment: EUR 26 million) DB Schenker is about to tackle the next major project in Carinthia. With an investment volume of around EUR 10 million they build a modern forwarding terminal on a 30,500 m² plot on the area of the Klagenfurt Airport. It comprises a 2,500 m² throughput hall, a 1,800 m² logistics warehouse and a 1,200 m² office building for 130 employees. Moreover the terminal will have its own track connection from the start of operation.

The new logistics facility is scheduled to start operating in spring 2011. With this new building DB Schenker responds to the increasing volumes during the past years. “In our network we offer the actors of Carinthia’s economy daily links across Europe with binding transport times, as well as air and sea freight transportations all over the world“, explains Klaus Hermetter, Manager of the Schenker & Co AG branch in Klagenfurt.

With this continuous expansion and modernisation of its logistics locations in Austria, the internationally acting transport and logistics enterprise wants to consolidate its position on the long term in European road and rail transport and to secure its leading position in air and sea freight business.
