NYK and WWL to cooperate in Mundra

RoRo-shipping lines NYK and WWL construct automotive terminal in Mundra

Together with the Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone (MPSEZ) the two shipping lines Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) and Wallenius Wilhelmsen Lines (WWL) want to build up an automotive terminal at the Port of Mundra. Executives of the three parties signed a „Memorandum of Understanding“ last week.

The planned automotive terminal will serve as a point of departure for the shipping of new cars from India to Europe. The first exportations of the Indian automotive industry will start in January 2009, based on the facilities in Mundra, which offer an annual capacity for the handling of about 200,000 new cars. The joint project of MPSEZ, NYK and WWL will increase this figure considerably.
