NYK Line Germany celebrates 20th anniversary

German branch of the Japanese shipping company NYK Line relies on team spirit and continuity for marketing of its universal offering

On May 1, 2014 the German branch of NYK Line celebrated its 20th anniversary. The Japanese shipping company is one of the major universal customers of the port of Hamburg. Last year more than 90 ship calls were registered in the port. This figure includes container and roro services, as well as ships carrying bulk and project cargo. The number of calls in Hamburg will further increase in 2014, as NYK Line is using its own vessels on the transatlantic route for the first time.

“The port of Hamburg is of particular importance to our enterprise. In 1898 the first NYK vessel has called Hamburg“, tells Klaus-Peter Barth, Managing Director NYK Line Germany. “Apart from Hamburg, also in Bremerhaven there is an important location of our shipping company, especially for the roro-service.“

The 130 employees have been invited to celebrate the jubilee in the foyer of the office at Kaiserkai. “Our team is very important to us“, underlines Klaus-Peter Barth. “Good service in the shipping industry is characterised by continuity and commitment of our experts for the customers.“

Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) is one of the world’s leading transport and logistics companies. The fleet consists of 389 bulk carriers, 126 container vessels (including semi-container ships), 120 roro ships, 82 tankers, 51 woodchip carriers, 28 LNG ships, 18 heavy lift/conventional ships, three cruise ships, as well as 29 other ships. In 2012 the NYK group achieved a turnover of around USD 23 billion and employs approximately 55,000 people worldwide. In addition to the headquarters in Tokyo, there are regional headquarters in London, New York, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Sydney and Sao Paulo.
