Panalpina: 20 years of “Dixie Jet“ and new air freight services

New air freight services under Panalpina’s own control to Dubai, South Africa and Hong Kong

These days the Panalpina group expands its own controlled network of air freight services. In a press release the globally acting transport and logistics enterprise announces the start of regular airfreight services connecting Luxembourg with destinations such as Johannesburg (South Africa), Dubai (United Arab Emirates) and Hong Kong. Moreover the transatlantic airfreight service from Luxemburg to Huntsville, Alabama in the USA, will be completed in the form of covering the transpacific route from Hong Kong to Huntsville. The new air cargo service will be operated by Atlas Air using a Boeing 747-400F aircraft, based on a several-years leasing contract. They will enable the Panalpina group to adjust the freighter rotations according to market and customer needs, while at the same time creating synergies with the existing transatlantic service.

Coinciding with the announcement of the new airfreight product, Panalpina celebrates the 20-year-anniversary of the Dixie Jet service between the air freight hubs in Luxemburg and Huntsville. When the service was launched in September 1990, it was a pioneering step. Panalpina was the first freight forwarding company in the world that offered a scheduled cargo service between Europe and North America, including control during the entire transport chain from door to door. The shuttle which is also operated by Atlas Air using a Boeing 747-400F aircraft, today provides several weekly frequencies, serving the Southern, Central and Southeast of the USA via an exclusive Road Feeder service. The service serves also Mexico City, Guadalajara and London Stansted.
