Pekaes to start a new general cargo route to Belarus

Pekeas S.A.: New groupage service to Belrus follows the acquisition of majority holdings in the companies Spedcont and Chemikals

Pekaes, a leading logistics operator in Poland and abroad, has launched a general cargo international distribution service to Belarus. The investment was inspired by its clients‘ growing interest in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and relatively weak competition in that region.

“The market comprised by the Commonwealth of Independent States, which includes Belarus, is just now beginning to open up for the general cargo segment. This is a region with exceptional potential, which is demonstrated by the virtual absence of competition, as well as by the increase in queries concerning that country coming from our clients. The line will initially operate with a frequency of two departures per week and the potential for customs clearance at our agency in Błonie. As demand grows, we will ensure the capacity to intensify activities and launch new connections,“ informs Marek Tkaczyk, Director of International General Cargo Operations at Pekaes SA.

Interest in eastern markets is consistent with Pekaes’s strategy of building a strong intermodal logistics group, as well as of improving efficiency across all areas of its activity. Proof of this came in December 2013 with the purchase of a 52.93% stake in the rail freight company Spedcont, as well as 100% of shares in Chemikals, the manager of a rail load transfer terminal at the border between Poland and Russia’s Kaliningrad province. These acquisitions give Pekaes the capacity to introduce new high-margin products, as well as the opportunity to explore exceptionally promising foreign markets, including countries in Eastern Europe.
