Port of Antwerp reduces several charges

Measures to be taken to stabilise freight volumes at Port of Antwerp

Customers and business partners of the Belgian seaport Antwerp will be able to profit from stable or lower charges. The Antwerp Port Authority has decided to keep the port dues and concession fees next year at the 2009 level, as they announced in a press release last week. As of 2010 a 10 per cent reduction will be granted for transhipment of conventional/breakbulk cargo.

This measure is aimed to support such types of freight as steel, paper, wood and fruit, which are faced with a number of structural problems. With this price policy the Management of Port of Antwerp seeks to combat further losses in freight volumes and employment in the warehousing and terminal industry. Moreover, the aim is to extend a helping hand to shipping companies that have to deal with the sharp recession, they state in the release.
