Port of Hamburg achieves record result in Austria once again

On February 22, 2017 Port of Hamburg Marketing together with its longstanding partner the Port of Vienna, hosted an information evening in the Port Lounge in Vienna. In front of many clients, partners and members Alexander Till, Manager of the Port of Hamburg Representative Office Vienna, announced a new record result for the Port of Hamburg in Austria – in 2016 approximately 296,000 TEU were transported on the environmentally friendly rail between the Port of Hamburg and the combined transport terminals in Austria.

During the event Alexander Till stressed once more on the importance of the close cooperation between the Port of Hamburg and the hinterland terminals in Austria, for example, the Port of Vienna.

Also Mag. Friedrich Lehr, Managing Director Port of Vienna reported on a successful year 2016. Handling 450,000 TEU per year, WienCont is one of the biggest container terminals in the European hinterland. A considerable part of the volume handled in Vienna comes from, or goes to the Port of Hamburg.

In this context, Friedrich Lehr emphasized on the importance of the Port of Vienna in its role as a cargo centre for the capital city. He underlined the excellent cooperation with the Port of Hamburg and its pioneering role in the field of digitization.
