Port of Hamburg registers uptrend in traffic with Russia

Container traffic between Hamburg and the Russian Federation increased by one third in the year 2010

Russia consolidated its position as the third most important trading partner of the Port of Hamburg in the year 2010. According to Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V. (HHM) around 439 000 TEU (20-ft-equivalent units) were handled in sea traffic between Hamburg and the Russian Federation. This means a 34 per cent increase on 2009.  Also for conventional general cargo transport Russia counts among the most important trading partners of Hamburg, this in particular for iron, steel and other metals as well as machines.

Every week around 29 feeders leave Hamburg to call at Russian ports. Containers are also transported overland by trucks and on the railway. Further Russia transportations are carried out by transit via Finland and the Baltic States. Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V. opened a branch in St. Petersburg in May 2003, which is also acting as a mediator for business contacts between the Russian external trade and Hamburg’s port economy as well as partner ports of the metropolitan region, and makes advertising for the wide range of services available with the Port of Hamburg in Russia. The office is managed by Natalia Kapkajewa.
