Port of Koper still ahead of plan

Container and automotive throughput at the Slovenian seaport of Koper shows strong increases

Cargo throughput at the Slovenian seaport of Koper is still running on full throttle. In the period from January to September 11.05 million tons of seafreight was handled at the quay facilities. This is an increase of 16 per cent compared to the previous year. And even better: The targets of the port operator company Luka Koper d. d. were exceeded by 2 percentage points in the first three quarters of this year.

The main growth drivers were activities at the container and automotive terminal. Container volume skyrocketed by 40 per cent to 344,644 TEU in the reporting period. Automotive throughput increased by 22 per cent to 274,471 vehicles. Dry bulk goods showed an increase of 11 per cent to 4.4 million tons. In the segments general cargo and liquid bulk goods the volume was stagnating to slightly declining.
