Port of Linz is implementing its silting project

Silting of three harbour basins until 2012 enlarges logistics park at Port of Linz to 66.5 ha:

As warehousing capacity and the container terminal at the Port of Linz are used to their full capacity, the long-term planned silting project is now being implemented. From August 2011 to December 2011 the water surface of the first basin will be downsized. The investment for all three basins amounts to EUR 10.8 million. Silting, earth movements, clearing and reforestation of the Marktau shall be finished by December 2012. In total about 800,000 m³ of earth, sand and gravel will be moved. About 665,000 m³ thereof will be transported by vessel from Marktau to Linz. At the Ottensheim side of the port a quay of about 400 metres will be built.

The logistics park at the Port of Linz is a long-term project aimed at creating additional logistics area and increasing throughput volumes in the trimodal port (road, rail, waterway). The area of the planned logistics park is 66.5 ha, including three harbour basins of 23.6 ha. Silting will create about 6.2 ha new land. About 3 ha thereof will remain as expansion area for existing and new customers of the port of Linz AG. Moreover the project logistics park implies the construction of a new deep freeze hall and the enlargement of the container terminal.
