Ports of Enns and Vienna come closer to Koper

Danube ports Enns and Vienna gain better rail connection to the Slovenian seaport of Koper:

The Danube ports of Enns and Vienna reinforce their cooperation with the Slovenian seaport of Koper. At a joint presentation in Portoroz representatives of the two inland ports emphasised on the growing importance of the northern Adriatic Sea for Austria’s industry. In their speeches, Mag. Monika Unterholzner, international manager of the Port of Vienna, and Mag. Christian Steindl, managing director Ennshafen, considered the port of Koper as a strong alternative for the service concepts via the North Sea ports.

As a measure to promote seaport hinterland transport on the railway, the services between Koper and Ennshafen/Port of Vienna will be expanded in the coming weeks. Two container trains per week will be operated from the Port of Vienna to the Port of Koper from the end of October. With the 2012 change of the schedule the Ennshafen port will be connected by a daily operated train to the Cargo Center Graz and can thus offer feeder connections for container shipments to the Port of Koper thanks to a NINA link (National Intermodal Network Austria).
