Rail Cargo Austria starts intermodal service from Wels to Trieste

Northern Italian seaport Trieste features another connection to the Rail Cargo Austria network

Rail Cargo Austria, the cargo branch of the Austrian Federal Railways, expands their service in seaport hinterland traffic from and to Trieste. At the specialised fair transport logistic 2013 in Munich the company has finalised a deal with Samer Shipping (Trieste) regarding the operation of a new intermodal rail connection between Wels and Trieste for trailers, the daily paper Wirtschaftsblatt reports. The service will start in July with three departures per week. In September the service will be expanded to cover daily departures. Each train offers the capacity to transport 33 trailers.

The new train service offers connections to the RoRo-services by the Turkish shipping company UN RpRo from Istanbul to Trieste and return. Besides it consolidates the cooperation between Rail Cargo Austria and Samer Shipping. For years the two companies have operated the Rolling Road service between Trieste and Salzburg with up to three trains per day in each direction.
