Rail Cargo Austria streamlines network

Rail Cargo Austria ceases service at 25 loading stations in Austria

Rail Cargo Austria (RCA) reduces operating Austrian loading stations by around 5 per cent. Due to the massive imbalance between net freight revenues, production costs and the fierce decline in volumes during the last weeks the group will stop operating 25 out of 500 stations for the time being. RCA has already found some alternative stations for the concerned customers.

However, if the situation in the affected areas changes for the better, it is possible to relaunch the operations. According to a paper of Rail Cargo Austria the group basically intends to keep the comprehensive services at a high level. The enterprise aims to grant cost-optimised handling of logistics processes on behalf of their customers.

The loading point network will be streamlined in four steps. The following stations will stop operating as of April 6, 2009: Kötschach-Mauthen, Uttendorf-Helpfau, Mining, Mauerkirchen, Völs, Oberdrauburg, Weitersfeld/Mur, Mureck, St. Andrä-Wördern, Lochau-Hörbranz, Hard-Fussach, Neumarkt in der Steiermark, Payerbach-Reichenau, Gurten, Obernberg-Altheim, Stein-Mautern, Spitz an der Donau, Langenlois and Furth-Palt. The stations Wels-Lokalbahn, Steinhaus bei Wels and Sattledt will be closed on June 15, 2009. Haag, Aschbach, St. Peter-Seitenstetten (December 13, 2009) and Hilm-Kematen (2010) will be the final ones.
