Austrian Cargo develops steady

Austrian Airlines Group Cargo showed slight revenue increase in 2008

The year 2008 showed better results for the Austrian Airlines cargo segment than they had been expecting. Despite a redimensioning of the long-haul segment in 2007, total transport volume could be kept at a relatively stable level. According to the annual report hot off the press the forwarded tonnage totalled to 142,624 tons, which is a decrease of 4.6 percent compared to the previous year. The air cargo segment handled 132,065 tons (minus 4.9%) and airmail amounted to 10,559 tons (minus 1%).

Thanks to the positive development in the medium-haul range the cargo segment of the Austrian Airlines Group was able to increase the revenue in the reporting period. The turnover amounted to EUR 139.2 million and exceeded the previous year’s figure by 2.8 per cent. According to the annual report the astronomical rise in kerosene price was partly passed to the end-customers account by fuel surcharges.
