RCA-company ICA lands major order from LKW WALTER

LKW WALTER and Intercontainer Austria cooperate to shift truck transport on the rail

Intercontainer Austria (ICA), a subsidiary of Rail Cargo Austria AG, is about to tackle a new major order on behalf of the LKW WALTER group. In the frame of a tight cooperation the two companies will shift about 450 truck transportations per week, or around 22,500 loads per year, from road to rail. This order requires RCA to expand their network and increase frequencies. This means 18 new combined transport trains per week between Germany (Ruhr-area and Ludwigshafen), Austria (Wels and Vienna) and Hungary (Budapest). “We bring 90 trailers per day on the rail. This is considerably relieving the environment and road traffic“, states Friedrich Macher, Spokesman of the Management Board of Rail Cargo Austria.

In a second stage RCA launches another 100 intermodal trains per week to the economic centres in Italy, Romania, Greece, Turkey as well as to Slovakia, Poland, Ukraine and Russia. These plans shall be implemented this year.

LKW WALTER (1,258 employees; preliminary annual turnover 2009/10: EUR 1.23 billion) has shifted more than 342,000 road transportations to combined transport links in the past four years. The core business of the according to their own statement leading transport organisation in European truck load traffic is the organisation of full load transportations on the road and with combined transport in Europe, to the CIS and the Near East. The order volume of international customers exceeds 3,900 full load transportations per year.
