RCA implements rate adjustment in combined transport

ÖBB logistics subsidiary rises rates in national UKV

Rail Cargo Austria AG is now implementing the announced price adjustment in national unaccompanied combined transport. “Rates will be increased as of 1 July 2009, by 9 to 15 per cent“, the enterprise announced yesterday. However, this will not affect the rolling road operations.

In a press release the Executive Management justifies the price adjustment as follows: „Due to its high costs national combined transport can’t be operated in a comprehensive network unless these costs are covered. Until now we were able to balance the lack of cost coverage by our international relations. As price pressure is growing because of liberalisation and competition on international road transports as well, there is a need to act also in national combined transport.“

Last year RCA handled 1.49 million TEU with unaccompanied combined transport. 540,000 TEU thereof where transported nationally. The Management is confident that further improvements in quality can stop consignments being shifted from rail to road. Diesel prices are rising again and area-covering utilisation of digital tachographs will force road transport to offer cost-covering rates sooner or later.“, a first silver lining is seen on the horizon.
