RCA wins large-scale order from the construction industry

200,000 tons of digging material on the railway to Vorarlberg

Rail Cargo Austria, the cargo traffic division of the ÖBB Group, announced the landing of a new large-scale order. As of October more than 200,000 tons of digging material per year will be transported on the rail from the branch line of the Streng Bau GmbH in Schönwies, Tyrol, to the receiving company Rhomberg Bau in Dornbirn, Vorarlberg.

For this contract, which is valid for the next 20 years, the length of the branch line in Schönwies will be doubled to 600 meters. In addition the 500-meters double-stack conveyor belt, which forwards material from the Starkenbach gravel plant below the motorway A12, over the Inn-river to the feeder line, will be completely renewed.

From the beginning of October RCA block trains can operate up to two times per working day between Schönwies and the feeder line of the Rhomberg Bau-company in Dornbirn. With a total weight of 1,450 tons, each train crosses the Arlberg with its maximum transport capacity. For the steep section of the route on the 125-years old “Arlbergbahn”, each train has three traction units. The service deploys the most modern cargo wagons, which have an open top for loading. An electromotive drive unloads the building materials via two flaps within 20 seconds.
