Reedereikontor “Meridian“ in Vienna about to be closed down after bankruptcy proceeding was opened

Ath the commercial court Handelsgericht Wien a bankruptcy proceeding about the assets and liabilities of Reedereikontor “Meridian“ Gesellschaft m.b.H. (Vienna) was opened on 11 March. The insolvency affects 80 creditors and 15 employees. According to the debtor liabilities amount to around EUR 20 million (of which contingent liabilities amount to about EUR 10.1 million). Lawyer Dr. Karl F. Engelhart was appointed liquidator for this case. The general first hearing (allgemeine Prüfungs- und Berichtstagsatzung) will take place on 17 May 2011 at 9 am.

The association for the protection of creditors KSV 1870 describes the insolvency of the shipping agency, focussing on marketing of worldwide container transportations, as follows: “The economic crisis in 2009 led to a deteriorating order situation and a price collapse in the market. As a major customer has invoiced significant additional claims and eventually terminated the agreement, and another business partner did not pay a million-digit amount, the debtor company had to confess its inability to pay.“ The indebted company sees itself as not being able to continue business operation. KSV 1870 hence expects a soon closing of the company.
