Pre- and onward carriage in combined rail/road cargo transport remain excluded from the driving ban on HGVs and semi-trailers

The Austrian Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology has issued a driving ban on HGVs and semi-trailers with a maximum authorised weight of more than 7.5 tonnes, and HGVs with trailers with a total maximum authorised weight of both vehicles exceeding 7.5 tonnes, based on the § 42 paragraph 5 of the Road Traffic Act 1960, effective on 7 August 2015, from 4 to 10 pm (destination Italy).

This ban applies to trips with destinations in Italy, or passing through Italy on the following routes:

Trips with destination in Italy or reached via Italy and can be made credible that they are excluded from existing driving bans in Italy;
Other bans following the special driving restrictions (ban on night driving, truck driving ban due to the Air Pollution Control Act) shall remain unaffected and must be observed.

Drivers reaching the destination of the trip south of the Brenner but are demonstrably driving to their residence in Austria or the company headquarters in Austria, and wait there for the end of the ban, can as before continue their trip. It can be assumed that at least the temporary destination is in Austria.

Truck drivers are advised to largely avoid the Inntal and Brenner route or move to suitable parking before entering Austria and await the end of the bans there. It should be noted that HGVs not excluded from the ban will be stopped in the area of Kiefersfelden and at the Brenner pass. They can not enter Austria and must return.
