Rhenus Group opens multimodal terminal in Moscow

Rhenus Group is further expanding its logistics activities in Russia. Last November a joint venture formed by OOO Rhenus Port Logistics, Moscow, and OAO Yuzhniy Retschnoj Port with a 50 : 50 ownership ratio started operating a multimodal container terminal in the largest inland port of Moscow. The 3,000 square metres location serves as a depot for empty containers. Full container handling will be started by March 2009.

The new terminal is situated within a distance of less than a kilometre from Moscow’s Third Transport Ring away. In the future up to 100,000 TEU per year shall be handled on an area of up to 80,000 square metres on the territory of the southern port of Moscow.

Apart from the waterway-option the terminal at the Moskva River also has a branch line available to handle entire block trains. Moreover customs may be declared for incoming containers. On medium term the enterprise plans to build a hall for packing and unpacking containers and a container garage. Yuzhniy Rechnoj Port is planned to evolve into a hub for container consignments within the coming years.
