Rhenus takes over German air and sea freight forwarding company IFS

IFS Inter Freight System Internationale Spedition GmbH reinforces the intercontinental activities of the Rhenus group

 

The Rhenus group takes another step to consolidate their market position in the international –air and sea freight forwarding business. On 27 October the enterprise signed a contract that fixes the acquisition of IFS Inter Freight System Internationale Spedition GmbH based in Asperg near Stuttgart with effect from 1 November 2010. The sold company distinguishes itself by its experienced employees and many new international customers.

The core business of the IFS Inter Freight System Internationale Spedition GmbH that was established in 1979 is air and ocean freight. The enterprise provides also for the land transport segment national and international forwarding solutions as Rhenus states. The worldwide transportations were so far based on the cooperation with reliable partner companies and agencies. The IFS company has six employees including Managing Director Eckhard Binder and generates an annual turnover of about EUR 2 million.

Having signed the contract, Uwe Oemmelen, CEO of Rhenus, said: “I am very happy with this acquisition. IFS enhances once again the know how of Rhenus in the fields of air and sea freight. After the takeover of Pro-Log locations in Asia this September this is an excellent completion of these segments in Germany for IFS.”
