Rolling road across the Brenner pass is right on track

From January to May 2015 about 6.5 per cent more trucks have been carried on the Brenner rolling road than in the previous year

The trains of the rolling road of the Rail Cargo Group, the cargo division of the Austrian federal railways ÖBB, are now able to draw a positive balance after the first five months of the year 2015. About 65,000 truck units were transported on the rolling road, which is 4,000 or 6.5 per cent more trucks than in the same period last year.

In total the Rail Cargo Group operates 34 daily rolling road trains on the Brenner corridor, on two routes. 30 trains are operated between Wörgl and the Brennersee terminal; four daily trains run between Wörgl and Trient. At a capacity utilisation of about 85 per cent, the trains have good bookings, and it is a declared objective to further increase their capacity utilisation.

By its own account the Rail Cargo Group is Europe’s expert and market leader when it comes to handle rolling roads. In 2014 the rolling road train on the Brenner corridor carried about 144,000 trucks on the rail.

However, the group strives to increase this result in the current year.
