Salzburger Lokalbahn acquires rail connection

Salzburg AG, Salzburg’s local railway, announces takeover of rail connection to Schwarzenberg Kaserne in Wals-Siezenheim

A real professional in terms of cargo transport on the rail has won the tender for the sale of the rail connection to the Schwarzenberg Kaserne (military barrack) in Wals-Siezenheim. Salzburg AG, Salzburg’s local railway, has acquired the 2.3 kilometres railway for EUR 1.5 million from the seller, the Federal Ministry of Defence. The transaction was handled by the SIVBEG real estate company (Strategische Immobilien Verwertungs- Beratungs- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft).

The single-track corridor branches off from the Salzburg – Munich route and goes through the industrial and trade zone Wals-Siezenheim to the Schwarzenberg Kaserne. The takeover of the rail connection by Salzburg AG secures the regional infrastructure and accessibility for rail cargo transport. Each year up to 150 wagons are rolling across the Salzburg AG tracks on 250 workdays.

“Regarding the rail connection we expect an upturn, as this is the only rail connection for the industrial area Siezenheim. With this acquisition the connection of many industrial enterprises to the national and international rail network is secured on the long term. It is not simply the transportations within this network that Salzburg AG is in charge of. Also the maintenance of the railway is managed by the enterprise“, says Gunter Mackinger, manager of the transport division of Salzburg AG.
