Danube port Krems and port of Constanza prolong cooperation

Cargo transport between port of Constanza and Austria showed a fierce decline in 2009

In the opening speech for the fifth Constantza Port Day, which was held last week at the Abbey of Göttweig near Krems, the head of the Danube port in Krems, Hubert Mierka, announced the renewal of the cooperation between the Danube and the Black Sea port Constantza. Representatives of the Romanian port of Constantza and of the Lower Austrian Danube port have singed a marketing contract on the evening before the event. This document seals the continuation of the cooperation.

 

Cargo transport on river vessels between Austria and the Black Sea port amounted to 133,747 tons last year, which means it was 62 per cent down on the year 2008 (349,324 tons). The biggest cargo groups were iron ore and scrap, fertilizers, followed by mineral products. Whereas maritime transport between Constanza and Austria amounted to 619,527 tons in the year 2008, this item showed the also 62 per cent lower figure of 237,494 tons in 2009.
