Slight decline in consignment volumes at 24plus in 2008

24plus records stabilisation of shipments in spring 2009

In 2008 the general cargo alliance 24plus logistics network was able to increase the turnover within the network by 5.8 per cent to EUR 454.7 million (previous year: EUR 429.8 million). But the reporting period beginning in October was characterised by a steep decline of consignment volumes (nearly 20 per cent) as a consequence of the general economic slump. In spring 2009 the situation stabilised. The Management announced in a press release that “consignment volumes did not show any further slump“.

Despite increases in turnover in 2008 the number of consignments and tonnages within the 24plus network showed a slight decline. The number of consignments declined by 2.5 per cent from 7.9 million in 2007 to 7.7 million units. Forwarded volumes dropped by 1.7 per cent from 2.016 million tons in 2007 to 1.980 million tons in 2008. Thus tonnage with minus 1.7 per cent showed a smaller decline than the number of consignments. In 2008 an average consignment weighed 258 kilograms, which is two kilos more than in the previous year. “Turnover increase does not only result from higher prices, but also from a higher rate of value-added services and a change in consignment structures“, commented Peter Baumann, 24plus Managing Director.
