Spedition Kapeller under the umbrella of Gebrüder Weiss

By taking over the Kapeller Internationale Spedition GmbH, Gebrüder Weiss increases its staff to about 300 employees in Tyrol. The Tyrolean company with two locations in Innsbruck and Wörgl employs about 40 persons and is to be integrated into the Gebrüder Weiss network as a wholly-owned subsidiary. Both parties have agreed to keep the purchase price confidential.

The company will continue to operate under the name ‘Kapeller Int. Spedition GmbH’ and appear on the market independently with the previous service portfolio. Owner Gerhard Kapeller hands over the management of the company to Hannes Mayr, who has successfully been running the Gebrüder Weiss branch in Tyrol for eleven years. David Kapeller, the son of Gerhard Kapeller, will manage the branch office in Innsbruck.

“Kapeller has already been a reliable partner to Gebrüder Weiss for many years,” says Hannes Mayr, “with this special logistics know-how we are expanding our product portfolio for our customers in the region,” he adds. The freight forwarding company founded in 1958 is an expert when it comes to event, moving, warehouse and furniture logistics as well as art transports. Additionally, Kapeller implements services for multimodal transports. Kapeller also has expert knowledge in the area of end-customer delivery (B2C) including assembly services.

Gebrüder Weiss opened the first office in Innsbruck/Tyrol in the 1950s. By taking over the freight forwarding company Kapeller, the logistics expert is now represented at three locations, in Hall, Wörgl and Innsbruck. Besides the special services, the portfolio comprises land transports, air and sea freight as well as individual logistics solutions and automotive logistics. Services in combined transport will be offered and handled by the subsidiary TSSU (Tyrolean road-rail-transhipment company).

With over 6,500 employees, 150 company-owned locations and an annual turnover of EUR 1.36 billion (2016), Gebrüder Weiss ranks among Europe’s leading transport and logistics companies. In addition to its core business of land transport, air & sea freight and logistics, the company operates a number of highly specialised industry solutions and subsidiaries under the umbrella of Gebrüder Weiss Holding AG, based in Lauterach (Austria). This includes logistics consultancy firm x|vise, tectraxx (industry specialist for hi-tech businesses), inet-logistics (software solutions for TMS transport management), dicall (communications solutions, market research, training, Rail Cargo (railway transport) and the Gebrüder Weiss parcel service GWP, co-partner of the Austrian company DPD.
