STLB is the new operator of Graz Süd terminal

Steiermärkische Landesbahnen announce takeover of container handling and rail infrastructure of the Graz Süd cargo terminal

The Styrian railway company STLB – Steiermärkische Landesbahnen has taken over the container and rail infrastructure of the Graz Süd-cargo terminal with effect from 1 July 2010. The cargo hub will still be operated as public infrastructure. The previous operator, Cargo Center Graz BetriebsgmbH (CCG), will concentrate on the hall infrastructure and the further development of the cargo centre, while STLB intends to evolve the cargo terminal into a centre for logistics and railway operations. Their target is to establish further container block train services to the seaports and other cargo terminals.

STLB provides throughput, storage, repair and maintenance services for containers at the Graz Süd-cargo terminal. Moreover they offer shunting services to form and detach trains to interested railway enterprises. On this area there is also the STLB garage, which offers maintenance services for rail vehicles (primarily cargo wagons). A diesel station for rail vehicles completes the portfolio.

The rail facilities acquired by STLB are situated on an around 500,000 m² area in the south of Styria’s capital Graz, between the southbound railway corridor from Graz to Spielfeld/Straß and the A9 motorway. The rail infrastructure comprises tracks with a total length of 17.3 kilometres and 53 switches. The container storage area covers about 25,000 m². Two portal cranes cover four tracks with a length of 700 metres each. In addition two free loading tracks with a length of 750 metres, a main track of around 800 metres and a track for the handling of “rolling road” of more than 600 metres are available.
