Strong growth at the Trieste Marine Terminal in 2011

Container throughput at Trieste Marine Terminal (Molo VII) shall continue to rise throughout 2012 witht he support of railway and shipping companies

The Trieste Marine Terminal, the operating company of the container terminal Molo VII, is confident about the business development in the year 2012. Last week at a joint event with Rail Cargo Austria in Vienna Managing Director Fabrizio Zerbini expressed his belief, “that we generate further growth in a difficult environment“. His conviction is based on a shortly starting container line from Asia to the North Adriatic Sea, as well as on Rail Cargo Austria’s new block train service from Trieste to Munich (Bavaria Express), Ulm (Patrizia Express) and Budapest BILK (Empress Elisabeth Shuttle) and return.

In 2011 the Trieste Marine Terminal handled 393.195 TEU at Molo VII. Thus the reference figure from 2010 was exceeded by 39.6 per cent. The total annual capacity of the facility is about 650,000 TEU. “Our terminal is also open to ultra large container vessels“, says Fabrizio Zerbini referring to the depth of the navigation channel of 18 meters. In the coming months two container cranes will be upgraded so they will be able to handle 12,000 TEU vessels.
