Talke services new customer Styron with stainless steel containers

Talke starts regular Optical Media transportations for raw plastics producer Styron in March

Alfred Talke GmbH & Co. KG handed over the first three of seven 30’ stainless steel containers to the global plastic, latex and rubber multinational Styron at the end of January. Styron is a young globally active enterprise that was created in 2010 as a spin-off from the Dow Chemical Company. The stainless steel containers are part of a ‘clean room’ transport concept for Calibre polycarbonate resins for Optical Media products.

Calibre Optical Media polycarbonate is used in the production of CDs, DVDs and Bluray discs. Polycarbonate is also used for manufacturing of high-quality plastic furniture and in construction projects. This high-performance material is manufactured at the Styron production facility in Stade and transported from there to customers throughout Europe.

The key element of the transport concept are seven 30ft stainless steel containers that have been specifically designed to meet the exacting requirements of the raw material for Optical Media products. Smaller and lighter than the containers previously used and employing a modified loading technology, they offer around 10 per cent more in terms of payload. This is accompanied by a double-digit percentage reduction in CO2 emissions. Talke is to commence regular transportation for Styron at the beginning of March.

Founded in 1947, the Talke Group with its headquarters in Hürth is by its own account a leading logistics service provider to the chemical and petrochemical industry in Europe, the Gulf States and Asia. The family-run company has a workforce of more than 1,600 employees and sub-contractors in a network of 24 sites throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
