The way is clear for integration of Lehnkering into the Imperial Group

Imperial Group expands its European market presence and develops chemical logistics with its latest acquisition Lehnkering:

 

On 22 December 2011 Imperial Holdings Ltd., a South African company, was notified of the European Commission’s approval for the takeover of Lehnkering Holding GmbH. Shares will be transferred on 2 January 2012, as the enterprise announces. With this strategic acquisition the Imperial Group will further expand its market presence in Europe and extend its spectrum to include logistics services for the chemicals industry.

The Lehnkering Group (Duisburg) is one of the leading providers of warehousing and shipping services to the chemicals sector. Employing a staff of about 2,700 persons the enterprise achieves total operating sales of about EUR 550 million in its Shipping Logistics & Services, Road Logistics & Services, Distribution Logistics & Services and Chemical Manufacturing Services divisions.

Imperial Logistics International GmbH, located in Duisburg, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the South African company Imperial Holdings Ltd., and is responsible for coordinating and steering all international logistics activities pursued by the Imperial Holdings Group outside Africa. Affiliated operations include four leading logistics companies: Imperial Reederei, a European leader in inland shipping; the contract logistics provider Panopa, which focuses on automotive, steel and spare parts logistics; the neska Group, operating numerous terminals for container and bulk cargo transhipment; and Brouwer Shipping & Chartering, a specialist in chartering space on ocean‐going vessels.

The South African corporation Imperial Holdings Ltd. is a publicly traded company specialising in the automobile retail business, car rentals, tourism, and logistics. The group employs a total of about 40,000 persons and most recently achieved annual revenues of some EUR 6.8 billion. The present acquisition is the largest in the history of Imperial Holdings.
