Three Cargo airlines pay penalties

Illegal price agreement of Asiana Airlines, Cargolux and NCA

Because of price agreements for transportations of international air freight consignments in the period between September 2001 and February 2006 the air companies Asiana Airlines, Cargolux Airlines and NCA (Nippon Cargo Airlines) have to pay penalties at the amount of USD 214 million. With the provision that the competent court agrees, Cargolux Airlines has to pay a penalty of USD 119 million. Asiana Airlines will have to pay USD 50 million, Nippon Cargo Airlines USD 45 million.

Within the last years the U.S. Department of Justice investigated cases of illegal price agreements of 15 airlines. Some of the airlines, e.g. Korean Airlines, Qantas, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways and Japan Airlines, have already paid the penalty which had been imposed on them.
