TKL optimises tour planning with „Geo-management“

New module of computer-based tour planning saves kilometres for TKL Supply Chain GmbH:

TKL Supply Chain GmbH, rooted in temperature controlled food and transport logistics, counts on sustainability. The Austrian, owner-managed enterprise has completely modified its tour planning and has therefore digitalised all data of its customers and points of delivery.

„Control and planning of all transportations with the new module for computer-based tour planning is a real milestone. The magic word is ‚Geo-management’ “, explains Wilhelm Leithner, managing associate of the TKL corporate group.

The electronic system collects and processes delivery volume and other details such as delivery date of about 4,000 orders per day. The module calculates the total volume of each order. With the push of a button it displays to the disponent the number of required tours, kilometres, time and costs per tour.

The TKL group distributes about 120,000 tons of foods this way each year across Austria. In fine distribution, where 120 trucks are used and the company provides a driving performance of about 5 million kilometres per year, the “Geomanagement" system can save five per cent of kilometres and reduce CO2-emissions by about five per cent as well. Continuous temperature control with an alarm system to ensure temperature limits completes the concept.

The newly structured TKL group (since the take over of the business segment “temperature controlled logistics and transportations“ from DHL Supply Chain in March 2010) has been a leader in the segment of food logistics for the retail and consumer goods industry – deep freeze and fresh goods – for many years. In 2010 the 420 employees generated a turnover of EUR 87 million. The management of the TKL Supply Chain GmbH (contract logistics), of the subsidiary TKL Lebensmittel Logistik GmbH (deep freeze, large-scale consumers and fresh goods logistics) and of Transcare Transport GmbH (temperature controlled transportations) lies in the hands of Wilhelm Leithner.
