UPS Supply Chain & Freight in the red

UPS Group has to accept losses in transport- and logistics segment

The Supply Chain & Freight division of the United Parcel Service Incorporation, charged with organising and handling global transport and logistics services, got in the red in 2008. With a turnover of USD 8.915 billion (+ 5.8%) the operative result with a decrease of USD 105 million was clearly negative. The balance sheet of 2007 showed a profit of USD 278 million at this item. The Management considers the weak performance as a consequence of the declining demand in the LTL business segment.

Taking into account the activities in the fields “U.S. Domestic Package” and “International Package”, United Parcel Service Inc. achieved a turnover of USD 51.48 billion during the reference period. This is a 3.6 per cent increase compared to 2007. The operative result amounted to USD 5.38 billion (2007: USD 578 million). The net profit after tax deductions totalled to USD 3.003 billion.
