Validation station causes annoyance in air freight business

Viennese air freight forwarder doubts neutrality of Sequrity Sicherheitstechnisches Zentrum GmbH:

The appointment of Sequrity Sicherheitstechnisches Zentrum GmbH as Austria’s only validation station for air freight shipments causes annoyance among Austrian forwarders. The enterprise based in Salzburg-Bergheim is a 100% subsidiary of the Augustin Quehenberger Group, which comprises also the companies Augustin Network (specialist for European transport management) and Quehenberger Logistics (specialist for network and contract logistics).

Andreas Goetz, Managing Director of Airocean Speditions GmbH, doubts whether the validation station is really neutral, regarding this constellation. This is as if the catholic pope would represent other regions as well, he says. In a press release the forwarder asked the Ministry of Transport (bmvit) for more information about this case, which he was provided immediately (see also the news about bmvit/validation).

Sequrity Sicherheitstechnisches Zentrum GmbH was appointed as Austria’s only validation station for air freight shipments in the frame of a public tender by the Ministry of Transport. Validation started on 1 September 2011, the service concession has no time limit.

The brackground for this appointment in Austria are the EU regulations of the European Parliament and Council from 300/2008 combined with 185/2010, according to which an independent validation station can be established to acknowledge shippers. Known shippers, who are tested by the independent validation station, keep their status for five years after the first acknowledgement. After reception of the security certificate and registration in the EU data base by the Sequrity company, the validated enterprise can ship air freight shipments in all EU countries as a “known shipper“. From today’s point of view there are about 3,000 companies, who are potential known shippers.
