via donau iluminates potential markets for Danube logistics

New industry analysis of the waterway company via donau about sector-specific potential to shift transport to the waterway
 
During the past months the waterway company via donau has made a comprehensive analysis of the industry sectors, showing specific potentials to shift transport to the Danube waterway. They worked on the basis of data from studies, surveys and statistics, as well as interviews with logistics providers and users. The report shall provide an insight into the future markets of the Danube shipping industry, and is a service of via donau. The analysis was made in the course of the INWAPO-project (“Upgrading of INland WAterway and Sea POrts”), co-financed by the European Comission.
 
The industry analysis is focussed on transportations that are important for Austria’s industry, and hence on transport flows from/to/within Austria. via donau studied the potential of the transport of nine different kinds of goods with respect to the following criteria: specific requiredments of the transported goods, production and processing locations as well as involved transport flows (relation and volumes). Furthermore they show examples of how to make use of river shipping, conclusions and future scenarios for certain kinds of cargo.The industry analysis can be found on www.inwapo-project.eu and www.donauschiffahrt.info.
