WienCont group posts 10 per cent increase in container volume

Declining warehousing business was the only bad news in the year 2010 for the WienCont group

The year 2010 took a good turn for the WienCont group. According to managing director Robert Groiss the total volume rose 10 per cent on 2009 to 377,000 TEU. The terminal in Vienna-Freudenau accounted for 320,000 TEU thereof and the location in Krems an der Donau for 33,000 TEU (up 7 per cent). In Vienna, where about 100 trains are handled per week, 185,000 TEU full containers (up 10 per cent) and around 135,000 TEU empty containers (+17 per cent) were counted. The locations Graz, Wels and Villach posted 24,000 TEU for the reporting period.

The WienCont garages repaired 8 per cent more containers in the reporting period than in 2009. The storage segment registered a decline of about 15 per cent. Groiss explains this by the shorter retention period of the empty containers in the depots as a consequence of the lack of containers. However he states with satisfaction: „Thanks to the latest developments in the ports of Koper and Trieste further shipping companies have opened depots, particularly in Graz and Villach.“ In the container trade and rent segment the enterprise was able to defy the bottlenecks.

The WienCont group comprises container terminals in Vienna and Krems (Lower Austria) as well as the container depots in Vienna, Krems, Graz, Villach and Wels. The enterprise has currently around 80 employees.
