Wizz Air investing EUR 275 million into a base at the Vienna Airport
Wizz Air, one of Europe’s fastest growing airlines, will add Austria as the 44 country to its network. The largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe will establish a new base at the Vienna Airport.
The airline will open its Austrian base with one Airbus A320 aircraft in June 2018, which will be followed by the deployment of two additional Airbus A321 aircraft in November. This fast growth of the Vienna base will see Wizz Air operate a total of 17 new routes from the Austrian capital in 2018.
The new location means an investment of USD 331 million (275 Mio. Euro) by Wizz Air, and 120 new direct jobs in Vienna. The airline’s operations at the Vienna Airport will also contribute to the local economy.
Providing an extensive offer to both business and leisure travelers, the latest Wizz services will connect Vienna with Gdansk (Poland), Tuzla (Bosnia-Hercegovina) and Varna (Bulgaria) from April; with Bari, Malta, Rome, Valencia and Tel Aviv from June, and with Billund, Bergen, Dortmund, Kutaisi, Larnaca, Nis, Ohrid, Tenerife and Thessaloniki from November.
